Minister of Health-Nevis, the Hon. Jahnel Nisbett, has welcomed four specialist healthcare professionals.

Ms. Nisbett said on social media on Aug. 24^th, they “bring with them specialist training and experience in hemodialysis and will form an important part of the team at our soon-to-be-opened Dialysis Unit at the Alexandra Hospital.”

The team comprises of three nurses from the Philippines, who have specialist training and experience in hemodialysis, and a biomedical technician who will be responsible for supporting the maintenance and operation of the unit’s specialized medical equipment.

The Minister added “as we inch closer to opening the first dialysis unit on Nevis, every piece of the puzzle is steadily falling into place.”

It comes on the heels of Premier, the Hon. Mark Brantley’s announcement on Aug. 19^th, where he mentioned that the nurses will arrive this month. Construction of the island’s first dedicated dialysis centre is “nearing completion” according to the Premier. The cost of the project is U.S. $1.3 million. The Unit will house five state-of-the-art dialysis stations, accommodating up to 20 patients.
