Nevis’ Premier Addresses NEVLEC’s Fuel Surcharge as Electricity complaints increase over high bills
Nevis’ Premier Addresses NEVLEC’s Fuel Surcharge as Electricity complaints increase over high bills
On Wednesday, July 6th 2022, Primer of Nevis, Hon. Mark Brantley addressed increasing complaints made by members of the public over their rising electricity bills.
Represented in rising cost of the fuel surcharge on bills from the Nevis Electricity Company Limited (NEVELC), the company has expressed in letters to customers that the root cause is the ban on Russian oil by the US and EU resulting in increased pressure on global oil prices.
Mr. Brantley explains further:
The company also explained to their customers that “the Fuel Surcharge is not unique to NEVLEC, but has been adopted by most Caribbean Electric Utilities and international Courier and Shipping Companies.”
