Nevis’ Premier announces dates for Nomination Day & By-election for Constituency #5

Following the local elections here on Nevis in Dec. 2017, Mr. Joseph Parry, became the lone Member of the Opposition, with the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP) winning 1 out of the 5 seats. The Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) won 4.

Last year 2019, Mr. Parry tendered his letter to the Nevis Island Assembly, signaling his retirement from the Nevis Island Assembly and active politics, effective December 31st.

According to St. Kitts & Nevis’ constitution, Chapter 4, the Legislature, section 48, in relation to the island of Nevis, “Where the seat of a member of the Assembly falls vacant otherwise than by reason of a dissolution of the Legislature, if the vacant seat is that of an elected member, a by-election shall be held; to fill the vacancy within ninety days of the occurrence of the vacancy, unless the Legislature is sooner dissolved.” A By-election is an election held in a single political constituency to fill a vacancy.

Mr. Parry also served as Nevis’ Premier from 2006 to 2013 and was the former leader of the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP). He stepped down in 2018.
