The Nevis Island Administration officially launched the Nevis Cricket Academy on Wednesday, May 27^th, 2026 marking a major investment in youth and sports development on the island.

The academy, designed for boys and girls ages six to 12, aims to provide structured cricket training while promoting discipline, leadership, teamwork and personal growth.

Speaking at the ceremonial launch, Director of Sports, Mr. Aljay Newton spoke about the programme structure and intentions:

Nevis’ Minister of Education and Sports, Troy Liburd officially declared the academy open and described cricket as deeply rooted in Nevisian culture. He encouraged young participants to approach the programme with dedication and the right attitude, noting that talent alone is not enough to succeed at the highest level.

During the ceremony, cricket equipment was distributed to all primary schools across Nevis, including bats, helmets, gloves, pads and full gear bags. Officials said the initiative removes barriers from participation and strengthens the pathway for identifying and developing young cricket talent.
