At a recent town hall meeting, Gerry Moise, General Manager of Royal Utilities Ltd., the contractor for the EC$50 million Basseterre Desalination Plant provided an important update, an essential project aimed at responding to climate-driven water shortages.
With rainfall now falling short of the island’s growing demand for potable water, Moise emphasized that the facility will play a critical role in restoring reliability to the national water supply. It was announced that the plant was recently powered up for initial testing, and is now “ready to go” marking a major milestone as the project moves closer to full operation.
He credited the project’s progress to strong leadership, rigorous engineering, and the dedication of the teams overseeing construction, monitoring, and system integration. He also spoke about the technology of the plant:
Once commissioned, the state-of-the-art system will deliver a stable and consistent supply of water to Basseterre and surrounding communities, supporting the government’s national priority of returning to 24-hour water service.
