New Solar Projects to Position St. Kitts for Energy Independence

A new renewable energy push in Saint Kitts is set to expand opportunities for residents to generate and benefit from solar power. Minister of Energy and Utilities-St. Kitts, the Hon. Konris Maynard shared that the Solarize Initiative will officially launch on April 30th:

 

 

Minister Maynard also spoke about the significance of the initiative in regards to ongoing geopolitics:

 

 

Hon. Konris Maynard. Additionally, broader solar developments are underway, including a planned 50 Mega Watt solar and battery storage project expected to supply about 30 percent of St. Kitts’ electricity needs.

 

The Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Energy & Utilities and the St. Kitts Electricity Company are currently in the phase of requesting proposals with opportunities opening for local businesses and other service providers to participate in expanding the country’s solar capacity.
