NIA rolls out its NE Workers Retirement (Pension) Scheme, nearly $2m paid out in gratuities

The Nevis Island Administration (NIA’s) Non-Established (NE) Workers Retirement (Pension) Scheme has been introduced after several years and according to Premier Mark Brantley, persons have received payments to date:

 

 

 

 

 

 

The NE Workers Retirement Scheme provides a gratuitous payment for persons who were employed in the Public Service and who would have given ten years of continuous service. Additionally, persons who gave 15 or more years of unbroken service would benefit from a monthly pension upon reaching the age of 62. More than four hundred persons are set to benefit.

 

 

 

Would monies be deducted from persons pay? In St. Kitts, the Federal Government increased civil servants salaries as of Jan. 2024 but a percentage of that (3% of the 8 %) will be deducted and put into the pension scheme in St. Kitts, in order for persons to benefit, upon retirement. Mr. Brantley explains:
