What is the status of Nevis’ Treasury, in the midst of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic?
The economic crisis unleashed by the outbreak of COVID-19 is hurting economies, irrespective of income level. Here in St. Kitts & Nevis, people have been laid off but in an effort to provide a spur in the local economy, the Federal Government announced a $120 million dollar stimulus package.
This includes: Social Security’s COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund, which was created to assist all working persons whose income have been directly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, by providing a payment of up to EC$ 1,000 monthly for three months in the first instance (April, May and June).
Here on Nevis, the island has suffered a loss in revenue (pertaining to residency and work permits in particular).
Furthermore, how does the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) continue to pay its public servants? Premier of Nevis and Minister of Finance, the Hon. Mark Brantley, explains.
The Premier mentioned that a plan must be developed to improve the situation.
