NSWMA announces permanent removal of waste bins from War Memorial and DR. Walwyn Squares
NSWMA announces permanent removal of waste bins from War Memorial and DR. Walwyn Squares
Garbage receptacles have been permanently removed from two locations in Charlestown, an advisory from the Nevis Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) indicates.
The locations are: War Memorial Square and D.R. Walwyn Square (adjacent to the Newcastle Bus Stop). The advisory states “this decision forms part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining a clean, respectful, and welcoming environment for all.” The general public was also urged to “refrain from disposing of garbage in these areas.”
The advisory comes in the wake of complaints from members of the public, who express their disgust with the stench from both squares.
As a result, residents and business owners are kindly asked to: secure all waste properly before placing it curbside, refrain from placing food waste in garbage bags and ensure that waste bags are clearly visible to facilitate early morning collection. NSWMA said the “garbage truck will service the area daily at approximately 2:00 a.m.”
