Nursing Mothers on Nevis honored by Ministry of Health

Nursing Mothers across the island of Nevis were honored for their dedication to exclusively breastfeeding for six months, during the 2nd Annual Award Ceremony hosted by Community Nursing in collaboration with the Ministry of Health on August 4th, 2023 at the Department of Gender Affairs Conference Room.

 

 

 

Nutrition Surveillance Coordinator, Mrs. Latoya Duncan, thanked the nurses who have forged positive working relationships with mothers throughout their pregnancy journey that is, anti -natal, post-natal and baby clinic. Mrs. Duncan also thanked PAHO for supporting the 10 steps breast feeding programme which is currently in operation in St. Kitts at the JNF Hospital.

 

 

 

The Alexandra Hospital will adopt the ten steps programme shortly to reinforce and sustain the Breast-Feeding Programme.

 

 

 

Also present and giving remarks was Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health et.al, Ms. Shelisa Martin-Clarke, who spoke on the importance and recognition of breastfeeding. Ms. Martin-Clarke paid homage to every mother and recipients being honored and congratulated them for their dedication to nourishing and nurturing their babies. Each honoree was presented with a plaque for their achievement.
