PAM expresses solidarity with the people and government of Taiwan following 6.4 quake

The People’s Action Movement (PAM) has extended heartfelt compassion and unwavering solidarity to the people and government of Taiwan in the wake of the recent 6.4 magnitude earthquake that struck (say ja-ee) Chiayi County and neighbouring regions.

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of six struck southern Taiwan early Tuesday, according to the US Geological Survey, leaving 15 people with minor injuries. The quake hit at 12:17 a.m. with its epicenter 12 kilometers (7 miles) north of Yujing at a preliminary depth of 10 kilometers (6 miles), USGS said. Taiwan’s Central Weather Administration recorded a magnitude of 6.4.

There were no immediate reports of deaths from the quake, though rescuers were still assessing damage.

PAM stated “we are deeply relieved to learn that there have been no reports of major casualties thus far. The shared experiences of small nations like St. Kitts-Nevis and Taiwan remind us of the vulnerabilities we face from natural disasters.”

The Party added “we express our deepest gratitude to the emergency services and responders working tirelessly to ensure the safety and recovery of affected communities.”
