Phase 2 Completed: Styrofoam Food Containers, Plastic Straws and Egg Crates now Banned

Thursday July 31st, 2025 marked the end of phase 2 of the national ban on plastic. This means that the sale and distribution of Styrofoam food containers, plastic straws, and plastic egg crates is forbidden.

 

No restaurant, supermarket or other institutions should be distributing these items as they should be removed from the market.

 

During the July 31st sitting of the National Assembly, Federal Minster of Environment, the Hon. Dr. Joyelle Clarke, made this plea:

In addition, the final phase of the ban on single use plastic will begin on August 31st, 2025, with a restriction on the importation of single-use plastic utensils, plastic cups, and plastic plates. Thereafter, the sale and distribution of these items will not be allowed as of November 30th, 2025.
