Following a 7.4 magnitude earthquake in the Republic of China (Taiwan), Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew provided a further update on Wednesday to inform the citizens of Saint Kitts and Nevis about the status of fellow nationals residing there,
Prime Minister Drew stated that he reached out to His Excellency Donya Francis, Saint Kitts and Nevis’ Ambassador to the Republic of China (Taiwan), to ascertain the status and well-being of the nationals there, who said “all are well.”
Expressing solidarity with the people of Taiwan, Prime Minister Drew stated, “Our hearts and prayers are with the people of Taiwan at this time. Let’s keep our citizens in our prayers and thank God for keeping them safe.” The Government of the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis remains committed to supporting its citizens abroad and stands ready to assist as needed.
Taiwan’s Ambassador to SKN, Micheal Lin, updated PM Drew about the earthquake. It caused landslides and left some buildings leaning at precarious angles, posing challenges for rescue teams. Reports say at least 9 persons have died, 800 injured.

Nevis’ Premier, the Hon. Mark Brantley, has issued a statement in the wake of the 7.4 quake in Taiwan. He said on Facebook “please help me extend prayers and well wishes to our brothers and sisters in Taiwan on the tragic loss of life and property in the massive earthquake there.”
Premier Brantley added “let us also remember in our prayers those who have been injured and pray for the safety of all including our students in Taiwan. St Kitts and Nevis stands in strong solidarity with Taiwan in this moment of national tragedy.”
Meanwhile, the People’s Action Movement (PAM) extended sincere condolences to the people of the Republic of China (Taiwan).
