That was Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, the Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew during the 2025 Budget Address as he discussed the tax priorities for tax in 2026, stating the primary focus is to collect outstanding tax arrears.
PM Drew emphasized that the 2026 tax agenda is focused squarely on ensuring compliance with existing obligations. He stressed that proper tax collection is the lifeblood of the nation, funding essential services such as schools, hospitals, roads, and social programs, and enabling investments in infrastructure, climate resilience, and social protection.
Central to the reforms is fairness, with the most vulnerable citizens protected from disproportionate tax burdens.
To support this, the government has reinstated the Income Tax Appeals Commission and the Property Tax Valuation Review Board, giving taxpayers avenues to appeal and ensure transparency.
