PM Drew Reveals UK Company’s Willingness to Pay Reparations for Slavery in SKN
Prime Minister, the Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew, during his latest Roundtable discussion with the press spoke about the topic of reparatory justice for the victims of slavery. He emphasized that while those who suffered under slavery have yet to receive reparations, the plantation owners and slave masters were compensated when slavery ended in the Caribbean in the 1830s.
He discussed anti-slavery and decolonization movements mentioning intellectuals such as C.L.R. James, Marcus Mosiah Garvey, and George Padmore.
Highlighting that the reparatory justice movement “cannot be stopped,” the Prime Minister revealed that Saint Kitts and Nevis has established a reparations committee that is grounding its work in rigorous research and policy.
