PM Drew Urges Greater Engagement from the Diaspora

Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew underscored the contributions of the diaspora and emphasized the Federal Government’s commitment to deeper engagement, during a special meeting with nationals of St. Kitts and Nevis residing in Sint Maarten.

Prime Minister Drew is currently in St. Martin for the 76th Meeting of the OECS Authority.  He stressed the need for the diaspora’s engagement to go beyond sentimental ties and extend to tangible contributions that support the nation’s development.

He highlighted that St. Kitts and Nevis nationals have made a profound impact in Sint Maarten, particularly in business, academia, and community development. His conversation with President of the University of St. Martin, Dr. Antonio Carmona Baez, reaffirmed this, as Dr. Baez acknowledged the excellence of Kittitians and Nevisians in education and entrepreneurship.

New avenues will be created for nationals in the diaspora to invest, participate, and shape the future of their homeland, as SKN advances its Sustainable Island State Agenda.

Meanwhile, PM Drew received a warm welcome from Prime Minister of Sint Maarten Dr. Luc Mercelina, who surprised him by dropping in unannounced during his meeting with the Saint Kitts and Nevis diaspora. PM Mercelina emphasized Caribbean unity, stating: “The only way for us to become big in this world is for Caribbean countries to unite.”

PM Drew expressed gratitude for the warm welcome, reinforcing that regional cooperation is key to advancing shared Caribbean interests.
