Police “deeply concerned” about frequency of traffic accidents, residents to see increased presence of officers

“Deeply concerned” were the words used by the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF), at the unusually high number of traffic accidents on both St. Kitts and Nevis, some of which have resulted in loss of life.

On June 21st, Kenrick T. Phillip of Stone fort Estate, St. Kitts, was severely injured in a traffic accident in Conyers, St. Kitts. He subsequently sought overseas medical attention. He succumbed on Sunday July 2nd.

On Saturday July 1st, Joneal Sprouse of Middle Island, St. Kitts, was involved in a traffic accident in the vicinity of the solar farm on the Frigate Bay Road. Mr. Sprouse succumbed to his injuries on Monday July 3rd. These latest road fatalities were recorded as St. Kitts’ 3rd and 4th for 2023. Nevis has not had any for the year to date.

As a consequence, police have extended condolences to all who have been impacted by the deaths. Based on a press release, lawmen say their investigations revealed that the main cause for traffic accidents this year and others past, was persons driving at excessively high speeds. Police have urged all to exercise adequate vigilance and extreme care while driving.

Also, in an effort to assist the general public with fully adhering to the Federation’s traffic laws in particular, the press release mentioned that “the Police Force will have an increased presence in communities around the country.”
