Police implement “Lighting Period” for motorists in SKN

“The designated lighting period for motor vehicles in the Federation will be from 6:00 PM until 5:45 AM the following day”, a public notice from Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force says.

 

By virtue of the powers vested in the Licensing Authority under Section 2(1) of the Vehicles & Road Traffic Act, Chapter 15.06, the designated lighting period for motor vehicles in the Federation will be for the above-mentioned times.

 

Based on the section of the Act outlined in previous paragraph, it states at night means from half an hour after sunset until half an hour before sunrise or such other period for the lighting of vehicles as may be fixed from time to time by the Traffic Commissioner and published in the Gazette.” The lighting period as mentioned took effect on Monday Nov. 11th 2024.

 

Motorists are reminded to ensure their vehicle lights are properly functioning & to observe the new lighting period for the safety of all road users.

 

Police said on Facebook, “road safety is always extremely important, and even more so during the festive season.”
