Prison Officer charged with conveying contraband into H.M.P.

A Prison Officer has been charged by police for the offence of Conveying Contraband to wit Cannabis into His Majesty’s Prison (HMP).

 

 

 

Tristan Johnson of Market Street, St. Kitts, who is attached to the HMP, committed the offence on Monday, November 20th. Mr. Johnson was charged at the Basseterre Police Station on Tuesday, November 21st.

 

 

 

But what is next for the Prison Officer? A police spokesperson says, “Whenever officers are charged criminally, they are suspended from duty pending the determination of the charge”.

 

 

 

In other news- Samantha Huggins, who was previously indicted on two (2) counts of Fraudulent Conversion, has been sentenced to His Majesty’s Prison. Ms. Huggins was sentenced to serve fifteen (15) months on one count and eighteen (18) months on the second count, on Tuesday, November 21st.

 

 

 

The offences were committed between the April 1st, 2015 and June 8th, 2016 and again on November 10th, 2015. Her sentences were handed down by His Lordship Justice Iain Morley. Both are set to run concurrently.

 

 

 

Meantime, on Monday, Nov. 20th, an autopsy was performed on the body of Malik Hughes, SKN’s 25th murder victim. Resident Pathologist, Dr. Adrian Nuñez, concluded that the cause of death was hypovolemic shock due to multiple gunshot wounds.

 

 

 

Hughes, 18, was gunned down on Wednesday, November 15th along the Frigate Bay Road in St. Kitts.
