The latest edition of Let’s Talk featured tourism entrepreneur and playwright Greg Phillip, who used the programme to discuss his production, The Trial of Hamilton and Nelson, and its examination of Nevis’ historical connections to the two prominent figures: Alexander Hamilton and Lord Horatio Nelson.

Phillip, CEO of Nevis Sun Tours, said the play seeks to move history beyond passive learning by placing Alexander Hamilton and Lord Horatio Nelson “on trial” before a modern-day audience:

Greg Phillip. Hamilton was born on Nevis before becoming a leading American founding father, while Nelson married on the island in 1787. Phillip said the play uses their histories to encourage audiences to ask difficult questions about how Nevis engages with its past.

A key feature is audience participation. Spectators will serve as the jury, voting after each charge to determine who they consider “more guilty”. Phillip said even he does not know the final outcome.

The season opens August 29th at 6:00 p.m. at the Malcolm Guishard Recreational Park. Tickets are available at the Alexander Hamilton Museum and at Buju’s Place in Charlestown.
