Recommendations to increase the Minimum Wage to be presented to Federal Cabinet

The Policy and Labour Relations Unit (PLU) in the Department of Labour, St. Kitts, will submit recommendations and a minimum wage policy to the Federal Cabinet about an increase in the minimum wage.

So says Federal Minister of Labour, the Hon. Marsha Henderson. This she said, during her presentation at a Sitting of the National Assembly on March 7th:

The Minimum Wage Advisory Committee was formed under the-then Team Unity Administration and is comprised of persons representing the government, the private sector, and civil society, which is in accordance with the Labour Minimum Wage Act Chapter 18.19. It makes provisions for a consultative approach to be adopted when revisions to the minimum wage are being considered.

Currently, SKN’s minimum wage stands at $9 per hour or $360 per week for 40 hours of work. Minister Henderson said updates on the minimum wage will be provided.
