Removal of VAT for selected items begin, a measure put in place by the Federal Gov’t

Citizens and residents of St. Kitts & Nevis will see another measure taking effect, as part of the Federal Government’s effort to improve the quality of life.

The list of selected items include: vegetables, fruits, fruit juices, vitamin supplements among others.

 

This was announced along with other measures that have been implemented to cushion the impact of the high increase in the cost of living.

 

These include: the reduction in the excise tax on the importation of fuel effective from April to September this year.

 

Other measures include: a 10% increase on wages, salaries and pensions retroactive to January 2022 and has benefited over 9,000 persons, inclusive of 4,000 salaried civil servants, 1,064 GAE’s (Government Auxiliary Employees), 1,365 pensioners and 2,800 STEP workers.

 

According to the Prime Minister, the government also granted an increase in the gas station dealers’ margin by EC$0.30 cents, the extension of the fuel subsidy program for an additional six (6) months.
