“Eradicate the Hate: Elevate Kindness” is the motto being shared this week across schools in Nevis, as the Department of Youth carries out its Bullying Awareness Campaign 2025.

The VON NEWSLINE spoke with Senior Youth Development Officer, Ms. Cordiesere Walters to learn about the theme and the activities:

The department’s posts have placed a special emphasis on cyberbullying. The BBC defines cyberbullying as negative harmful behaviour “on social media, messaging apps, online games and other places online.”

Ms. Walters explained that this is among the most harmful types of bullying because it can happen anytime and anywhere. She noted that since most young people are heavily engaged with technology, raising awareness about the issue is essential.

This is a message to parents and guardians:

Ms. Cordisere Walters. This Friday, November 7th, 2025, schools across the island are expected to host special assemblies to address bullying, as youth officers visit. On that day, all are encouraged to wear white and take a stand against bullying.
