High Court Judge – Justice Trevor Ward QC, on Friday, September 25th, 2020 ordered that the boxes coming out of St. Christopher One (East Basseterre) Constituency, following the June 5th 2020 General Elections be reopened, and the rejected ballots be re-examined.

This comes following PAM’s (People’s Action Movement) Candidate for St. Christopher One, Mr. Ian “Patches” Liburd’s, Election Petition.

In June, a few days after the election, Mr. Liburd expressed his dissatisfaction with the results for St. Christopher #1 and said his “solicitors will proceed with the necessary high court action”, which has led so far, to the recount order by Judge Ward.

October 2nd 2020 has been slated as the date by the court for official inspection of the boxes.

In the June 5th General Elections, SKN Labour Party’s Candidate and now Representative of St. Christopher One, Dr. the Hon. Geoffrey Hanley, defeated Mr. Liburd.

Dr. Hanley gave this comment to the VONNEWSLINE regarding the recount:

In addition, Dr. Hanley stated that even if it comes down to the counting of the rejected ballots, he remains confident that he will emerge as East Basseterre’s Representative.

That’s Dr. the Hon. Geoffrey Hanley.

The VONNEWSLINE attempted to contact Mr. Liburd for a comment but to no avail.
