Residents are asked to prepare for Tropical Storm Tammy; hurricane status expected before passing island chain

That was an update from the Director of the Nevis Disaster Management Department (NDMD), Mr. Brian Dyer on the impending Tropical Storm. 

 

The NDMD held an emergency meeting on Thursday with public and private stakeholders on the island in preparation for Tropical Storm Tammy which is expected to strengthen just before passing between the islands. 

 

In his presentation, Mr. Dyer is encouraging the public to be prepared: 

 

He said that the impact of the storm is forecast to be between Friday evening and Saturday evening and we can expect winds of up to 74mph or greater as the storm is expected to become a category 1 hurricane. 

 

Persons that are in low lying areas are asked to take precautionary measures until the passing of the storm, Dyer also outlined those prime areas: 

 

The Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) is now activated, for emergency purposes, the public is asked to call 469-1423, 469-7903, 469-5449, 469-0995 or 668-6401.
