Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) has produced a “speed analysis summary” for the period October-November, which reveals how fast persons across the Federation were traveling on average.
Here are the figures: although the speed limit outside of town, outside of schools zones etc is 40 mph, Total Records (Count): 96, Average Speed was 62 mph and the Highest recorded Speed: 92 mph.
For the speed limit of 20 mph, which applies to school zones and built-up areas, Total records (count): 435, Average speed: 46.5 mph and Highest recorded speed: 71 mph.
Lawmen say tickets have been served. Non-payment after 10 days from receipt will result in court action. Maximum penalty: EC $4,000.00.
In October, police implemented the use of photo radar technology, which was part of their speed monitoring exercises. The use of the technology enables lawmen to pinpoint how fast a person is traveling. Lawmen have said “our objective is not to penalize drivers, but to protect lives.”
