Saddlers Secondary School Renamed in Honour of Dr. Denzil L. Douglas

As schools across the nation were reopened on Monday September 1st, 2025, a historic ceremony was held to officially rename the Saddlers Secondary School as the Dr. Denzil L. Douglas Secondary School, to honour the man whose leadership made its creation possible.

The renaming pays tribute to the Right Honourable Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, former Prime Minister and longstanding Parliamentary Representative for Constituency Six, whose advocacy ensured that young people in Saddlers would gain access to quality secondary education.

Addressing students, faculty, and dignitaries, Dr. Douglas reflected on the school’s origins. “I made the case that Saddlers was the most fitting place for the next most modern secondary school in the Eastern Caribbean…by the grace of God, and by the will of the people, and through the support of my Cabinet, we succeeded in getting this school built right here in Saddlers.”

Since opening in 2009, the school has produced professionals such as athletes, doctors and teachers. Dr. Douglas addressed the students expressing that: “You too, my dear students, can achieve greatness. You too can carry forward the mission of transforming lives. You too can leave a legacy worthy of remembrance,” he said.za
