Seniors and Caregivers Awarded for Senior’s month

Seniors Month climaxed with an awards ceremony at the Jessup’s Community Centre on Thursday, October 29th, 2020 honouring five of Nevis’ Seniors (one from each parish) and two Caregivers from the Seniors Division of the Department of Social Services.

This award ceremony concluded a series of events that took place as part of Senior’s month celebrated in October and the observance of International Day of Older Persons, celebrated on October 1st

International Day of Older Persons was designated by the United Nations General Assembly on December 14th, 1990.

Due to the pandemic, this year’s policy and programmatic interventions were targeted towards raising awareness of their special needs.

Recognizing older person’s contributions to their own health and the multiple roles they play in the preparedness and response phases of current and future pandemics, is also important.

Minister of Social Services, the Hon. Eric Evelyn, stated at the ceremony that “COVID or no COVID, we continue to look after you.”

The Senior awardees for seniors month were: Bernadette Lewis (St. Paul), Constantia David (St. Thomas), Violet Perkins (St. James), Reuben Williams (St. George) and Carlton Pinney (St. John).

The Caregivers awarded were Mrs. Janet Herbert and Mrs. Essie Delashley.
