SISA: PM Drew highlights SKN’s Achievements and Developments

During Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew’s recent foreign engagements as he represented the Federation in the United Nations General Assembly, he conducted an interview with Columbia University Professor Jenik Radon and Graduate Jonas Oliver Piduhn. 

 

PM Drew mentioned the “Sustainable Island State” Agenda (or SISA) model of St. Kitts and Nevis, developed in collaboration with the University of the West Indies and other non-governmental organizations focusing on several pillars of sustainable development which are: food security, green energy transition, economic diversification, sustainable industries, the creative economy, COVID-19 recovery, and social protection. 

 

 Among the achievements he discussed were: technical and financial investments in agriculture that has increased food output, creating a recycling plant in collaboration with the Republic of China (Taiwan), Drilling of several wells and the installation of desalination plants.  

 

Other developments PM Drew highlighted were: soon to be implemented solar energy plant, the geothermal energy project on Nevis, as well as the on-going construction of a “climate-smart” hospital in St. Kitts that would be able to withstand the challenges that climate change brings such as hurricanes. 

 

With SKN’s journey to becoming a “Sustainable Island State”, PM Drew stated he believes, “We can become the first sustainable island state on earth…the model says we can do it…”
