The summit saw representatives from nearly 200 countries, including leaders of business and finance gathered in Dubai from November 30th to December 12th for the COP28 climate conference with the aim of fast-tracking the transition to a clean-energy future.

The St. Kitts and Nevis delegation was led by Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew and included Cabinet Ministers such as Minister of Energy et.al, Hon. Konris Maynard, Minister of Foreign Affairs, et.al, Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas and Minister of Sustainable Development, Hon. Joyelle Clarke as well as technical experts and youth involved in the fight against climate change.

During the conference, the representatives spoke on the nation’s own agenda in combating climate change including the development of renewable sources of energy being geothermal on Nevis and solar power in St. Kitts along with plans to secure a readily reliable and available water supply. With these two major assets in place, the federal government sees the procurement of food security in the federation, placing St. Kitts and Nevis on the track towards becoming a sustainable island state.
