SKN elected as Vice Chair of the Inter-Governmental Negotiation Committee –Developments in International Tax Cooperation

St. Kitts and Nevis is now the Vice Chair of the (UN) United Nation’s Intergovernmental Negotiations Committee and will be responsible for drafting a United Nations Framework Convention on International Tax Cooperation.

 

Attorney General, and Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs in the Federal Cabinet, Hon. Garth Wilkin, was appointed on Monday, February 3rd. The appointment signifies diplomatic efforts to elevate the nation in the United Nations system and secure critical partnerships.

 

The process to draft an effective United Nations Framework Convention on International Tax Cooperation will run from 2025 to 2027.

 

Speaking at the organizational meeting in New York, Hon. Wilkin expressed, “at this dynamic and critical moment in human history, marked by novel geo-politics and geo-economic realities, illustrates the necessity of investing in certainty, security and sustainability.” 

 

He further stated, the federation’s Sustainable Island State by 2040 agenda that, “Deepening international tax cooperation must contribute to Financing for Development, and the overall achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.”
