SKN Joins 78 States in Support of the International Criminal Court

“St. Kitts and Nevis is pleased to endorse this joint statement and stand up for the rule of law, in support of the International Criminal Court, which serves a critical role, in upholding the international criminal justice system.”

That was a quote from H.E., Dr. Mutryce Williams amidst the announcement of potential sanctions against the International Criminal Court (ICC) by the United States Administration.

Along with 78 other states, a joint statement was released on Friday, February 7th, 2025.

The statement outlined the parties support for the “independence, impartiality, and integrity of the ICC” recognizing it as a “vital pillar” for “accountability for the most serious international crimes, and justice for victims”.

It condemned the potential sanctions underscoring increased risk of impunity for most serious crimes, erosion of international rule of law that promotes global order and security as well as “jeopardize the confidentiality of sensitive information” and “the safety of those involved.”

The statement concluded: “we underscore the ICC’s indispensable role in ending impunity, promoting the rule of law, and fostering lasting respect for international law and human rights.”
