“Museums, Sustainability and Wellbeing”, that’s the theme for International Museum Day (IMD) 2023. IMD was celebrated for the first time 40 years ago and has been celebrated on May 18th each year or around this date since then.
The objective of International Museum Day (IMD) is to raise awareness about the fact that “Museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples,” icom.museum says.
The museums located on Nevis are: Simeon Daniel, Horatio Nelson and the Museum of Nevis History also known as the Alexander Hamilton Museum.
In St. Kitts, the Edgar O. Challenger and National Museum, which is located in what used to be the Treasury Building, in Basseterre. It is also the home of the St. Christopher National Trust. Executive Director of the St. Christopher National Trust, Etsu Bradshaw-Caines, spoke of the latter part of the theme in an address:
