On Tuesday, June 7th 2022, St. Kitts and Nevis joined in the celebrations of the fourth global World Food Safety Day.
This year’s World Food Safety Day aims to “draw attention and mobilize action to prevent, detect and manage foodborne risks and improve human health,” according to who.int.
The WHO’s website goes on to state that “Foodborne diseases affect 1 in 10 people worldwide each year. There are over 200 of these diseases, ranging from diarrhea to cancers. ”
The Nevis Health Promotion Unit (HPU), in honour of the day’s observance, encourages members of the public to use safe water, cook foods thoroughly, separate and prep tools for raw and cooked foods, sanitize surfaces used for food preparation and keep food at safe temperatures.
This year’s World Food Safety Day theme is “Safer food, better health.”
