SKN OAS delegation speaks on Transatlantic Slave Trade during special sitting

Under the theme: “Global Freedom: Emancipate yourself from mental slavery”, the special Sitting of the OAS Permanent Council commemorated the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Transatlantic Slave Trade.

 

 

 

The Day is a United Nations international observance designated in 2007 to be marked on March 25th every year. The day honours and remembers those who suffered and died as a consequence of the transatlantic slave trade.

 

 

 

St. Kitts and Nevis’ delegation spoke to the tool of education in extolling self-awareness and the government’s efforts to empower citizens through land and other property ownership. Permanent Representative of St. Kitts and Nevis to the Organization of American States (OAS), is Her Excellency Jacinth Henry-Martin:

 

 

 

 

 

 

Meanwhile, two citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis were highlighted, Lorna Ava Henry, former Dance Specialist in the Ministry of Culture and lead dancer/choreographer with the Okolo Tegremantine Arts Theatre and Nevis’ David Freeman, fifer/folklorist extraordinaire, on the OAS website. This formed part of the VII Inter-American Week for people of African Descent in the Americas.
