SKN Veteran Calypsonian Rock-A-Fella passes

Cecil Rock affectionally known as Rock-A-Fella in the St. Kitts-Nevis Calypso fraternity has passed away.

The St. Kitts Carnival Committee confirmed his passing on Thursday, September 22nd, 2022. Many in and outside of the calypso community have offered their condolences to his family.

In a statement upon learning of his passing, the Carnival Committee was quoted as saying “Rock will be remembered as one of the crowd pleasers of the proud sound Calypso Tents over the years. Everyone looked forward to his performance as he had an inimitable style of his own. His presentations were dramatic, usually very spontaneous, as he would be making up the lyrics on stage but the crowd loved him for that….

The St. Kitts-Nevis National Carnival Committee extends deepest condolences to his family, friends, and fellow calypsonians and hopes that they would find strength and comfort at this time.”

In 2011, Rock-A-Fella won the King Of The Tents Competition.

Crafted under the theme of politics, his most popular Calypsos were ‘Stay In You Lane’ and ‘Labour, Labour (A Doan Care Wha Dey Do To Me’).

He last performed in the 2019 – 2020 Sugar Mas Calypso Season.
