SKN’s Foreign Minister calls for regional frameworks and partnerships

Foreign Minister, the Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas, led a delegation to the Brazil-Caribbean Summit. It was held to foster stronger cooperation and stronger collaboration between the Federative Republic of Brazil, the largest country on the South America Continent and the Caribbean countries and addressed development challenges.

In addressing the gathering of leaders Dr. Douglas spotlighted the need for the Caribbean and the Global South to play a direct role in the shaping of international agendas. His statement goes: “We will not settle for simply being in the room. We want to speak into the microphone as well.”

Other areas addressed was Saint Kitts and Nevis commitment to supporting Haiti, the fulfilling of sustainable development goals through the Sustainable Island State Agenda (SISA), and especially the development of regional frameworks and partnerships such as energy transition as well as climate financing to address pressing issues.

Those issues include emerging threats resulting from climate change like hurricanes as well as pandemics and economic shocks.
