As the Team Unity Administration continues to be in celebratory mood, in light of the fact that it will celebrate its 5th year in office on Sunday Feb. 16th, Prime Minister, Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris, has expressed his view, regarding the upcoming General Elections.
The Team Unity coalition, made up of the People’s Action Movement (PAM), Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) and People’s Labour Party (PLP), defeated the then ruling St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP), led by Dr. Denzil Douglas, in the last general elections on Feb. 16th 2015.
Back in 2015, the first sitting of the National Assembly after the Team Unity alliance defeated the SKNLP, was in May 2015. Based on information from the SKN’s constitution, an election shall be called within 90 days of the 1st sitting of the new parliament .
Therefore, the Team Unity coalition has until August 2020 to call the elections. Prime Minister, Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris, speaking in Parliament February 12th, said he is certain Team Unity will serve a 2nd term.
Dr. Harris mentioned that in spite of imminent general elections, other matters have taken precedence.
