SKN’s UN ambassador serves on Committee to select UN Nelson Mandela Prize Laureates
Saint Kitts and Nevis’ Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Her Excellency, Dr. Mutryce Williams, was a part of the Selection Committee representing the Latin and Caribbean States of the United Nations, in awarding two Laureates.
Other members of the committee included Philemon Yang, the President of the UN General Assembly and Permanent Representatives from Bahrein, Poland, Finland, Egypt, and South Africa.
For the month of June, the United Nations Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela Prize, will be awarded to the Laureates: Brenda Reynolds, a social worker supporting the health and well-being of Indigenous communities in Canada, and Kennedy Odede, founder and CEO of Shining Hope for Communities, a Kenyan grassroots organization providing services to urban slums.
This prize aims to recognize the achievements of humanitarians as guided by the purposes and principles of the UN, while honouring Mandela’s “legacy of reconciliation, political transition and social transformation.”
