Snake sightings on Nevis: “if you see snakes, notify Ministry of Agriculture”, says PS Sergeant

The VONNEWSLINE has received many complaints and concerns, surrounding a number of snakes, surfacing at various places here on Nevis.

“What is the Department of Agriculture here on the island, doing about the matter?” We posed that question to Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture here on Nevis, Mr. Huey Sergeant, who urged the public to contact the Ministry.

The corn snake is said to be a North American species of rat snake that subdues its small prey by constriction. Constriction is a method used by various snake species to kill or subdue their prey.

Corn snakes are harmless and beneficial to humans. They also help control populations of wild rodent pests that damage crops and spread disease.
