The Federal Ministry of Information, Communication, Technology (ICT) & Posts, in partnership with the Ministry of Health, are spearheading the development of the Electronic Civil Registry System (ECRS).
It is a secure digital platform for managing vital records such as births, deaths, marriages, and divorces.
According to a media release by the ministry, it was launched with specialized training in August 2025, the initiative has enabled Health Ministry staff to begin digitizing historical records, starting at the Basseterre Health Centre. The process, which dates back to 1859, is progressing chronologically in reverse to ensure “comprehensive digital archive”
On September 25th, the Minister of ICT and Posts, the Hon. Konris Maynard toured the facility, commending the collaboration for its role in modernizing public services. Minister Maynard commented that: “By digitizing vital records, we safeguard our nation’s history while improving the efficiency and accessibility of these essential services.”
The ECRS aims to improve access to civil records, reduce service delays, and strengthen inter-agency coordination.
