St. Kitts and Nevis Calls for Continued Cooperation on Justice Reform

Attorney General and Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs, Garth Wilkin highlighted the federation’s criminal justice reforms at the 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, September 27th, 2026.

 

Addressing attendees virtually, Wilkin outlined a Diversionary Caution Framework, under which more than 100 police, prosecutors, judicial officers and social-sector personnel had been trained with UNODC support. He also highlighted restorative justice initiatives and a community youth football programme focused on conflict resolution.

 

The presentation pointed to a 75 percent reduction in homicides in 2025 compared with 2024, with the Federation recording its lowest annual figures in more than two decades.

Additionally, Attorney General Garth Wilkin stressed the importance of international partnerships in advancing Saint Kitts and Nevis’ justice reforms. He said continued technical cooperation, investment and specialized expertise would be essential, particularly for strengthening correctional systems and infrastructure.
