St. Kitts and Nevis has urged stronger international cooperation and accelerated financing for Small Island Developing States (SIDS), reaffirming its commitment to sustainable development and climate resilience at the Eighth Assembly of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
Addressing delegates on June 4th, Federal Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment, Climate Action and Constituency Empowerment, Dr. Joyelle Clarke, highlighted the GEF’s role in strengthening ecosystems, institutions, and community resilience through initiatives such as the Small Grants Programme and the STAR allocation system. She stressed that the overlapping crises of biodiversity loss, climate change, and pollution demand urgent coordinated global action. Clarke outlined national progress it green agenda:
She called for inclusive, nature-positive solutions and direct support to frontline communities, warning that achieving global environmental goals requires “collective resolve” and accelerated implementation toward 2030.
