St. Kitts and Nevis Delivers CARICOM Address at UN Charter’s 80th Anniversary

St. Kitts and Nevis’ Ambassador, Her Excellency, Dr. Mutryce Williams, delivered a powerful statement on behalf of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) at the United Nations General Assembly, commemorating the 80th anniversary of the signing of the UN Charter.

Addressing world leaders, Ambassador Williams hailed the Charter as both a “foundational text and a living covenant” for the CARICOM nations, emphasizing its enduring importance in promoting unity, equality and peace. She reaffirmed the Caribbean’s commitment to multilateralism, human rights and sustainable development.

Highlighting Article 2’s principle of sovereign equality, Ambassador Williams noted that CARICOM continues to play a vital role in shaping global norms, advancing climate resilience, ocean governance and equitable financial reform.

She called on the UN to become more inclusive and responsive, referencing the Pact for the Future and the Antigua and Barbuda Agenda for Small Island Developing States (SIDS) as critical steps toward a renewed global social contract.

In closing, Ambassador Williams reaffirmed CARICOM’s dedication to the Charter’s ideals and its readiness to help shape the next 80 years of global cooperation.
