St. Kitts and Nevis Extends US$100,000 Aid to Jamaica after Hurricane Melissa
St. Kitts and Nevis Extends US$100,000 Aid to Jamaica after Hurricane Melissa
Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew has reaffirmed St. Kitts and Nevis’ commitment to assisting the government and people of Jamaica following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa, which made landfall on October 28th, 2025.
Dr. Drew announced that his government will contribute one hundred thousand US dollars to support Jamaica’s relief and rebuilding efforts. He said the contribution reflects the nation’s deep sense of regional solidarity, compassion and commitment to its Caribbean neighbours during times of need.
The Prime Minister added that the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis remains in close contact with Jamaica’s Prime Minister, Dr. Andrew Holness to ensure that assistance is channeled effectively and efficiently as part of a coordinated regional response.
He also encouraged individuals, private organisations and businesses across the Federation to partner with the government in further helping Jamaica rebuild communities and restore normalcy.
Hurricane Melissa, a catastrophic Category Five storm, was the strongest to ever directly strike Jamaica. It left widespread destruction, claiming at least twenty-eight lives and caused severe damage to homes, schools, hospitals and other infrastructure across the island.
