“A better future for every child”
That is the theme for World Children’s day typically celebrated on the 20th of November each year.
St. Kitts and Nevis joined the rest of the world in celebrating World Children’s day on Saturday. World Children’s Day was first established in 1954 as Universal Children’s Day to promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improving children’s welfare according to un.org.
Acting Federal Minister of Social Development & Gender Affairs, Senator Wendy Phipps issued an address in honour of the day’s celebrations and said:

According to the cdc.gov, child abuse and neglect are serious public health problems that can have long-term impact on health, opportunity, and wellbeing.
During the period 2017 to 2019 there were 303 reported cases of child abuse in the federation against children from 0 to 17 years. Reports of abuse against girls were at 68% and boys at 32% during the aforementioned time period.
