St. Kitts and Nevis now has the sixth-highest electricity prices in the Caribbean, according to the SOL Ecolution / Marla Dukharan Caribbean Energy Price Index H2 2026.

According to the report, the federation moved from below the Caribbean average in the first edition of the index to above the regional average in H2 2026. The shift followed the reintroduction of fuel charges by NEVLEC, which contributed to higher electricity costs.

The report highlights the vulnerability of Caribbean economies to international energy-price shocks, noting that most countries in the region remain heavily dependent on imported fossil fuels.

For St. Kitts and Nevis, the findings added urgency to efforts to strengthen energy security and reduce dependence on imported fuel.

According to the index, St. Kitts and Nevis has the sixth-highest electricity costs in the Caribbean, behind Bermuda, the Turks and Caicos Islands, Barbados, Anguilla and the Cayman Islands. The Bahamas improved from sixth to 10th place, falling below the regional average as its electricity costs became more affordable relative to local purchasing power.

The report states that greater energy efficiency and a well-planned transition to renewable energy will be critical to reducing costs and limiting the impact of future international fuel-price volatility.
