St. Kitts and Nevis Social Security celebrates 45 years of existence
February 1st 2023, will mark the 45th year of operation of the St. Kitts and Nevis Social Security Board.
According to socialsecurity.kn, the Social Security program began in 1978 when the Social Security Act, No. 13 of 1977 was given effect.
From February 1st 1978, a new system of social insurance was implemented, replacing the National Provident Fund which had been in operation for ten years.
The scheme can best be described as being in the ownership of its basic stakeholder groups, which can be categorized as (but may not be limited to) employers, insured persons and government.
According to the Boards Facebook page in recognition of the milestone, “This institution has impacted the lives of every citizen not only through guaranteed benefits but through the organization’s corporate social responsibility programs.
As [the Social Security Board] embark on our 45th year, our mission stands firm to provide the best possible benefits guaranteed by sound financial management and efficient administration.”
