Thursday November 14th 2024 was recognized as World Diabetes Day. In light of this initiative, St. Kitts Diabetes Association organized a panel discussion hosted by Reginald M. Oloklin on November 14th to go over topics and concerns related to diabetes in St. Kitts.
Among the Panel was Emergency Room Physician, Dr. Jazel Roland and Diabetes Educator, Flora Chen who both gave information about diabetes and good and bad dietary habits.
Dr. Roland spoke about facilities located in the federation that cater to diabetes patients:
About 800 million people in the world have diabetes, the World Health Organization (WHO) said. In the Federation, the St. Kitts Diabetes Association has estimated 3000 people have diabetes. Ms. Chen gave dietary and lifestyle tips on reducing the chance of being diagnosed with the disease:
