St. Kitts Lions Club donates to the Visually Impaired

The St. Kitts Lions Club on Thursday 17th October during a ceremony held at the McKnight Community Center donated braille books, braille dominos, and audio cassette tapes to the St. Kitts Society for the Blind, and white canes to two visually impaired members of the society.

This donation comes as October is being observed as Blindness Awareness Month.

Making presentations were President of the St. Kitts Lions Club Ms. Charmaine Pemberton, who was accompanied by past President Ms. Adora Warner and member Mrs. Judy Tyrell,

The items were accepted by President of the St. Kitts Society for the Blind, Mr. Rockliffe Bowen while the two white canes were presented to 82-year old Mr. Eric Belle and Ms. Sharon Fredrick who are both blind.

The Organization’s motto which is  ‘We Serve’ is based on the organization’s programs which is based on and  include sight conservation among others, while  visually impaired persons have been profoundly impacted and a number of schools have benefitted from eye-screenings courtesy of the St. Kitts Lions Club.

On Saturday 12th October the club organized a walk for visually impaired persons under the theme ‘Journey for Sight’ which concluded with a beach picnic at the Anchorage in Frigate Bay, St. Kitts.
